Carbyon

Direct air capture of CO2 to clean up our atmosphere.

HQ: Eindhoven, Netherlands | Industry: Environmental Services | Invested: 2024

About

Carbyon develops equipment to filter CO2 from the air, then stores it underground or converts it into alternatives to fossil fuel-based products. The Dutch startup was founded by Hans De Neve in 2019 as a spin-off company from the applied research institute TNO.

Market drivers

Removing gigatonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere will be an essential part of reaching a net zero emission level by 2050. Direct Air Capture (DAC) is the key tool to permanently reduce the concentrations of CO2 in our atmosphere.

Impact

The company’s patented ‘fast swing’ technology increases CO2 capacity via proprietary sorbent material thereby significantly decreasing unit, energy and project costs – all critical criteria to drive large scale deployment. Carybon’s demonstration units are operating in Canada through it’s partnership with DeepSky. Carbyon is positioned to deliver industry leading decarbonization costs of €100 per ton of CO2.
